Technical

Estimation enhancement

  • Estimation mode was slow and cumbersome, needed to rerun ActivitySim multiple times
  • Task 1 Estimation Runtime Performance
  • Task 2 Estimation Usability Improvements
  • Run Multiprocessing in estimation mode, and change format of estimation data bundles (EDB)
  • Built into the CI test to ensure EDB consistency -- new format
  • Allows for destination choice alt sampling in estimation mode (not previously allowed)
    • includes chosen alt
    • 1-zone and 2-zone (TAZ+MAZ) versions
  • Changed data frame to ID-CASE, ID-ALT format (preferred for LARCH)
  • EDB size drastically reduced
  • Tested on Prototype MTC model with synthetic data
    • convert from CSV to Parquet format made huge improvements in read/write time, output size
  • Tested on SANDAG model with real data
    • took advantage of LARCH functionality, e.g., modify specs in LARCH without going into ActivitySim; LARCH "doctor" data cleaning utility
  • Jeff added LARCH enhancements for prediction and troubleshooting functionality
  • ActivitySim Users Guide updated for Estimation Mode.
  • Call for either Sijia or CS to review

Dependency lock update

  • Recommended 3 options: Pip, PDM, UV
  • Conducting tests
  • UV testing -- winner on user experience; problems with SANDAG example (indexing issues) being investigated
  • PDM not as smooth and slower
  • PIP abandoned due to lack of native lock file support, slow
  • Team will finish testing and create a PR
  • Will prepare a final wrap up presentation

MoMo'25

  • Several presentations using ActivitySim or related

Admin Update

  • AMPO to Zephyr transition underway
  • In reviewing invoices, there may be some remaining balances from Phase 9 that are not 100% drawn down.
  • Important because of transfer of funds from AMPO to Zephyr
  • RSG, WSP, CS should review before end of June and let Joe and Alex B know
  • Moving partners-only meeting to June 12; need to squeeze in Roadmap discussion before end of June!
