KOReader crash on "Read entries"

Similar crash to #51, same device. This crash only seems to happen on every second launch of "Read entries". My guess is that only a fresh opening can succeed, and it only seems intermittent because each crash causes KOReader to entirely restart, such that the next opening will be a fresh one.

I have a kobo kobo libra h2o and I've tested this on android too, but I can't crash it.

What you can do is to export a crash.log (and that's why I'm going to remove the custom one that is broken now). You need to activate the Verbose Logs:

Navigate to Top menu → Hamburger menu → Help → Report a bug and tap Enable verbose logging.

That will be helpful to see what is happening. Cool thing is that it tells you where the crash.log is located on your device.

Yes, those are the steps to reproduce. Interestingly it doesn't happen when I'm not connected to WiFi.

Ok, that's indeed very interesting and the logs says that it's on the wifi related but I also see that you have an Anki plugin. Could you turn off the anki plugin and try again? 🤔 If it happens, could you remove the extra plugins you've downloaded and keep only miniflux?

I can't reproduce your bug but maybe adding some delay on network awareness could fix it 🤔 this technique it's been used on core so I want to check if it works or not.

Ok, I've deleted the anki plugin (I didn't have any others) and it still crashes, then I replaced my install with the one you posted, still crashes 🙁 apologies for the bad news...

Hmm, this one is hard to debug because I can't reproduce it. Could you help me debug this one deeper with a video to see the steps and check if there are some dialogs rendered before the crash?

With this we'll have a new crash.log with only the errors regarding this scenario. I updated to 2025.08 and I don't have any problems 🤔 at first one error in your crash.log was regarding the cachestore.lua, a core file that wasn't found, but then it was found so I'm out of ideas. I guess that reinstalling "2025.08" manually would be an option if you updated via OTA, but that's too much for an ask unless you are ok with that to have a fresh KOReader install.

Hmm, I didn't see any dialogs, but I have an idea to try before we go as far as reinstalling KOReader (I am willing to though). So far we're assuming the reason you can't reproduce it is that it's specific to my device, but what if instead it's my Miniflux? I have a large number of feeds, mostly homegrown ones, and usually at any given time there's one down because someone's server broke or they didn't renew their TLS cert in time. I could imagine there's some data coming from Miniflux in a shape you don't expect, and that would also explain why the crash only happens on WiFi.

I'll email you an API key so you can test, and we can rule this out. If you still can't reproduce it, then I'll reinstall KOReader and follow the steps you laid out.

Maybe you could try that one. It's the only wifi related thing that could have a race condition 🤔 So I want to check if the problem is somewhere there, if not there, then the culprit is going to be on the core BookList that we use for displaying the list of feeds 👀

Not sure why is happening with your miniflux though. But now that I've learn more about KOReader, I think that I can refactor this. I'll be doing more checks, but the problem is some race condition on the notification system.

Meanwhile I reinstalled KOReader and now can't reproduce it 😅 even with plain v0.0.10. It could be the OTA update, but it could also be my settings, I'll try and gradually reproduce the settings I had before and see if it reappears on my end

Yeah, it's a very weird bug indeed. It seems like a race conditions tbh but I have no clue. I'll leave it as is for now and see what else we can do 😅
