empty grub-btrfs.new file

Hopefully someone can help point me in the right direction. What would cause an empty grub-btrfs.new file, grub-btrfs.cfg.bkp and no grub-btrs.cfg. I regenerated grub before reboot and only a normal grub-btrfs.cfg was present this time. System is arch (stable repos).

I ran into an issue last week where my grub only had an entry for UEFI. Chroot, mkinitcpio, grub-mkconfig fixed it.
