I run the command in the title and it comes up with that error in the title.

There are couple of checks done to ensure the installer application is valid. So something seems to be missing or not valid in your case.

In case of OS X Mavericks:

  • The provided <path> must be a directory
  • The CFBundleDisplayName must be successfully be retrieved from <path>/Contents/Info.plist
  • The CFBundleIdentifier must be successfully be retrieved from <path>/Contents/Info.plist
  • The CFBundleShortVersionString must be successfully be retrieved from <path>/Contents/Info.plist
  • The LSMinimumSystemVersion must be successfully be retrieved from <path>/Contents/Info.plist and have a valid structure
  • The directory <path>/Contents/SharedSupport/ must exist
  • The file <path>/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia must exist
  • The file <path>/Contents/SharedSupport/InstallESD.dmg must exist
  • The file <path>/Contents/SharedSupport/OSInstall.mpkg must exist
  • The file <path>/Contents/SharedSupport/InstallInfo.plist must NOT exist
  • The file <path>/Contents/SharedSupport/SharedSupport.dmg must NOT exist

I think you should probably try to obtain the OS X Mavericks installer from an alternate source and test again.

hello... currently having the same issue when trying High Sierra from the App Store... trying to do this for a UTM Virtual Machine. matter a fact, all the ones I've tried: Sierra, high Sierra, and Catalina. none of them have worked so far...

@bruh830 You might want to check if your download is actually a full installer application, which should be at least 5 GB. If this is not the case, you need to get a full installer application first:

For newer macOS versions, you can use softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version <macOS version number> (see: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253440269?sortBy=rank).

For High Sierra, an option is to use MIST (https://github.com/ninxsoft/Mist) and remove the quarantine attribute from the created installation application (see: #13).
