Use Case Background
CRDC just released the 2025-26 and 2027-28 collections package for comment (more information available here).

CEDS last coordinated with the CRDC collections for the 2020-21 collection. This use case will bring CEDS current with 2023-24 collection, while also incorporating the proposed changes for 2025-26 (e.g., nonbinary will not be added to CEDS).

This looks like a lot of good work is being done!

An observation on just one of the elements proposed:

The proposed element of "Teacher Credential Subject Area" can be achieved this through the use of existing CEDS elements. Credential Type (000071) makes it possible for a person to be awarded a variety of credential types included "Endorsement." And then Credential Award Relationship (002081) allows for two credentials to be linked together.

This means it is possible to award a teacher certificate (Credential Type: Certification) and then use Credential Award Relationship to link that certificate to the specific Endorsements (i.e. the subject areas) that that person is credentialed to teach.

• Civil Rights Coordinator - We would use existing Organization Contact elements to capture this.
• Transfer to Alternative School Indicator - this is a bit of a derived element, but we would use the "change of placement" disciplinary action options (03072, 03074, 03073, and 03075) to identify transfers to alternative school.
• Teacher Credential Subject Area - would suggest adding this to Credential Definitions. Like CEPI, this is captured in Endorsement credentials at MDE, but Subject Area would have to be derived from endorsement titles and/or descriptions. If we could use SCED Subject Area as an attribute of Credential Definitions, that could standardize the option set.
