I was randomly browsing Phoronix, and noted that a Valve extension was accepted into Vulkan

It seems to provide a method to perform RGB conversion on the GPU.

Would this enable UltraGrid to avoid swmix conversion and shed some more latency when streaming from common RGB sources?

Hello and thanks for asking.

Currently we support vulkan video encoding only through the ffmpeg library, so it mostly depends on whether they decide to use this extension.
Maybe in the future we will support vulkan encode directly, but right now, according to vulkan.gpuinfo.org there still isn't a single gpu/driver that supports this extension so it's too early to tell. We'll just have to see if it provides any tangible benefits as opposed to just doing the conversion in a compute shader.
