Dynamic z coordinate in Dfsu3DSigma

Dear all.

I am running mikeio 2.2.0 and try to process a sigma only 3D dfsu file in order to prepare a porosity map for a MIKE3 wave simulation.

I can't seem to find the "hidden" dynamic z coordinate of the sigma layers (compare https://dhi.github.io/book-learn-mikeio-modelskill/dfsu3d.html)

What is the 3rd column of geometry.element_coordinates? I assume the z coordinate interpolated from nodes to element centres at the first timestep?

A cross section throught my dfsu file looks like this in MIKE Zero:

In mikeio I get however a maximum z coordinate of 7.2 m.
Isn't that strange, or what am I missing?

The .geometry and all it's attributes is static info, based on the mesh and the vertical discretization.

The dynamic z info is available on the private field ._zn. (n_timesteps, n_nodes).

There is still room for improvement for Dfsu3d😐

Makes sense.
Do you get z in geometry.element_coordinates directly from the dfsu file or where do you construct it?
For my usecase I would need to get element centered dynamic z from ._zn and wonder if I can reuse some code…

I don't think we have anything in the public API, but have a look in https://github.com/DHI/mikeio/blob/main/mikeio/spatial/_FM_geometry_layered.py
