Description
I have been using Dropbox as my cloud storage for some time now and have noticed that the iOS files app has permission to access the root folder of Dropbox.
But what does that do, what is the advantage?
Well, for me, it has the advantage that I can synchronise my Safari downloads across systems. Since I have an iPhone and iPad but also a Windows PC, I was able to synchronise my downloads without any problems. You can select the default location for downloads in Safari on the iPhone and iPad, but unfortunately Safari cannot save anything in kDrive because the root folder of kDrive is ‘read only’. Unlike Dropbox, where Safari or the Files app can access the root folder. However, as I am a big fan of open-source apps and also value my privacy, I don't want to continue using Dropbox. I will switch to kDrive anyway, but I think it would be cool if this little quality of life feature could be considered.
as you can see, the little message at the bottom of the screen says "read only" in the root folder
here you can see what safari/the files app looks like when I try to set kDrive as my default location for downloads in safari
here you can see the root folder of dropbox.
I hope I have been able to convey what I am seeking. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me.
