Quake was originally designed around 320x200 resolution which is a tall pixel resolution (5:6 ratio pixels). At that resolution, the hud/menu graphics would be slightly stretched vertically, and graphics were designed with those in mind. Without the tall pixels ratio, the hud/menu are squished.
Ironwail has this feature to turn on tall pixels and I think it would be nice to have this feature in vkQuake as well.
In fact, I would ideally like to see this implemented in Quakespasm as well, but its development is really slow nowadays.
