My device the Schism is a split layout device so its kind of an issue for them to not work/

I would recommend that you get in touch with the maker of the device to see if they can offer you any sort of work arounds for this.

We have no current plans to expand how the IO expander works so having it added as a bounty that either you or the Schism maker sponsors may make someone pickup the enhancement.
