LatestOpen-source software tool to assess the initial and optimized metal demand of six reference IAM scenarios across 110 energy projections under SSPs (SSP3 excluded) and RCPs constraints, from the 2018 International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) SSP Database.
For each IPCC scenario, the initial scenario estimates metal demands in marker scenarios by using the most plausible technology market shares found in the literature. The optimized scenario strives to reconcile the technological mix of power plants, EVs and grid technologies with metal constraints, while minimizing the differences with the initial scenario. By doing so, the potential of a flexible market share of transition technologies is assessed, in order to avoid metal bottlenecks and provide sub-technology development prioritization to orientate an energy transition within metal constraints.
