Fixing the IBM HMC Display of Linux Kernel Version

Correcting PowerPC Linux Kernel Display

Occasionally, the IBM Hardware Management Console (HMC) may not correctly display the Linux Kernel version when listing the attributes of an LPAR. Correction requires both access to the HMC and privileged access to the OS of the LPAR in question.

  • Login to the affected LPAR and escalate privilege
  • Re-add the ctrmc service with the command:

/usr/sbin/rsct/install/bin/recfgct

  • Re-enable the client remote connection to the resource monitoring and control (RMC) subsystem:

/usr/sbin/rsct/bin/rmcctrl -p

  • Login to the HMC web interface and find the LPAR. If the LPAR does not show the correct Linux kernel version, then SSH into the HMC (as the appropriate ID, such as hscroot) and issue the command:

diagrmc --autocorrect -v
