v262 wrong .NET install linked during install

Describe the bug

I used an installer and it redirected me to download and install .NET v10.

After install, the system would shutdown (suddenly, immediate black screen, everything off) during reading of sensors.

In eventviewer i noticed Error entries related to the crashes related to missing .NET v8 functionalities. Followed the link to install v8 from EV and sensors were being read without the system shutting down.

Is there a log.txt file next to FanControl.exe with recent date entries?

Which installer? From where? FanControl uses .NET 10, so I'm not really sure what this is all about.

Maybe add the EventViewer entries you mentionned?

i am sorry, you are right. That error was related to a driver, not fan speed. I am actually seeing no events in event viewer when the system just suddenly crashes and shuts down.

i used FanControl_262_net_10_0_Installer.exe from the release page on github.

A log was made but is just empty:

I have no idea how to troubleshoot further. If there are no other things I could check, you may definitely close this issue.

What kind of computer are you on? What motherboard?

Windows 11 pro 25h2 (not activated due to some system changes)

Gigabyte ga-x99-ud3 with intel xeon e5-2699v4

The aforementioned system changes did include motherboard (asrock x470 prime pro) and cpu (ryzen 7 5800x) swap, but fancontrol was only installed after the hardware changes.

The crash typically occurs right after searching for sensors in the assisted setup.

Does it crash at a specific point? Like when it sets the headers to 0%?

Can you try to remove some of those sensor sources and try to identify which one of those causes the issue?

Question, why have the .net 4.8 and .net 10 versions ? is there pro's & cons or more for compatibility/security ?

.net 4.8 is built in windows, no external dep required. .NET10 needs to have the runtime installed externally.
