State of the development. And why you shouldn't use this addon anymore. #48

Description

@Talv

For quite a while this addon hasn't received any updates. So here's a more official update:

Pretty much since the beginning - in particular since I've forked original project from https://github.com/flo/m3addon , it was limited to two somewhat active devs. Me, and @Solstice245 .

  • As far as my story goes - I've lost the interest in Blender and and 3d modelling in general, and I'm busy with work/other projects.
  • @Solstice245 however made a decision that it's time to ditch this code base (for good reasons), and made a successful attempt on something I'd describe as m3addon v2 - it fixes many of its core problems, but builds on the past knowledge and history/research of m3addon - which is why I'm personally calling it v2 :)

Anyway.. what I'm trying to announce here is that this project should no longer be used moving forward. At best it might receive some minor fixes, so that it can support .blend files/models based on this addon etc.

M3Studio

  • m3studio is the unofficial successor - it's recommended to switch to this project.
  • When doing the switch, make sure to uninstall m3addon first, or maintain two distinctive Blender environments. As these addons can't work together.
  • Blender 4.0 ia not supported yet AFAIK. You'll have to stick to latest 3.X ( 3.6 LTS is probably best ).
  • It has no docs, yet. But it has a tutorial on YT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDFx9at5ubw
