Description
Dreadlord Malganis
Intro
Dreadlord Malganis was created around the same time as southern Eastern Kingdom NPCs (Reridge, Elwynn, Duskwood, Stranglethorn, etc.) and is on the older end, with an entry ID of below 1000. This would put his creation date to around 2002. He also holds the distinction of being the first NPC with the rank of raid boss ever created (excluding the GM Spawn Point NPC, which is obviously a testing NPC), predating even the human faction leaders. He was never seen in Beta or live though, and besides his rank there's no data about him to be gathered.
Theory
Given the circumstances around his creation date and the fact that his ID is surrounded by NPCs from the southern Eastern Kingdoms areas, primarily human areas, if he did exist then he would've been around that region. Because this NPC is clearly meant to be the Warcraft 3 antagonist of the same name (albeit misspelled), their rank being that of a raid boss, and the fact that Mal'Ganis was intended to be the final boss of the Karazhan raid during this time, it's very likely that this NPC existed in Karazhan, probably inside the platform room at the top of the tower. Given that this NPC is the first raid boss in the database, he was probably Blizzard's first attempt at one, and may have served as a template for other raid boss NPCs like the faction leaders. There also exists a spell called "Insect Plague (Old)", which silences a player and shares a similar icon to Carrion Swarm in Warcraft 3, one of the Dreadlord hero abilities, so this could've been one of his spells. As for loot, Malganis may have dropped Unholy Avenger, an Artifact death knight-style sword with a unique glow effect and the icon of Frostmourne in Warcraft 3, very in-line with the character of Mal'Ganis. It has a rather high ID, but it may have been added later when Karazhan was more developed, and may have been Blizzard's earlier attempts at legendary loot.
Todo
- Spawn Dreadlord Malganis at the top of Karazhan, in the platform chamber.
- Give Dreadlord Malganis appropriate spells, level, multipliers, etc.
