This is an interesting project. I'd like to share my idea of how we hope to utilize it.

We have a separate mail sending pipeline which we supply with a recipient, some context data and a template. I would love to be able to build the templates in strapi, and when a mail is about to be sent, the pipeline can fetch the template, render the email and dispatch it.

For this to work I have several needs that I would be willing to contribute with:

• Custom IDs, to be able to enumerate the different mail flows we have with more than just Email 1.
• Custom image storage, we already use a local minio for Strapi, so it should be possible to use a storage provider.
• Re-useable components - so we can easily pick the same header and footer for our email needs

What are your thoughts on this?

sorry for the late reply, currently I'm a bit busy. Anyway your idea seem to me a great enhancement and my quick considerations are:

Wouldn't be hard to add a new customID field in the model

• Custom image storage, we already use a local minio for Strapi, so it should be possible to use a storage provider.

Honestly I think would be easy to write a custom component to pick your images

For simple use cases you can now configure predefined blocks for the plugin under your config/plugins.js.

That's quite a mouth full, but you don't have to come up with all that on your own. Just design a template, save it, view the json under Collection Types > EmailTemplates > (select your template) and pick the part you want. Hope that helps.
Note that once this block is inserted into a template, the template won't be updated if the block configuration changes, so a more flexible, visual solution would obviously be better.
