Using JSON to query states (not change)

Is there a way to query the state of things like Instances, Black Bar, etc - rather than just sending commands to turn them on or off via JSON?

FOr instance - get the state of instance 0... if i run a serverinfo, it does not reflect the actually state of led instance 0 - it always shows "running" even if it is not...
