Editing Lambda in VS Code using the AWS Console - Can the location files are stored be changed?

Question

When I download lambdas from the "Open in Visual Studio Code" button in the AWS console to edit locally, they are stored in the location "/tmp/aws-toolkit-vscode/lambda/" followed by the region and function name. Is it possible to change this location?

Currently, no. The extension monitors this location for file changes to make it easier to deploy. To download to a specific location, you can right click in the AWS explorer, and it should prompt you for a different location:

Note that this will not allow you to seamlessly deploy in the same way, but it will be in a location of your choosing.

Got it - so we can download from the console or open in VS Code, and the behavior will be the same - but we can't (at this time, at least) change the path where these files are stored, edited, and deployed from if we want the extension to work as designed?

Shouldn't that have a default value and be end-user configurable, at least in settings.json?

Correct for the first part; you can still upload using the same right click menu and selecting the location that you've done the download in, but it wouldn't prompt you to deploy in the same way.

In terms of it being end-user configurable, I think it should be possible for there to be a global location in settings that dictates where the functions are downloaded to by default. Could you mark this issue as a feature request?
