Adding New Species

Hello everyone,

I was looking into identifying Malleefowl's (Leipoa ocellata). However, this speices seems not to be among the species birdnet-analyzer is currently working with.

Is there any way to submit a request to add Malleefowl to the library, or perhaps, any other way around?

There are multiple verified sound of Malleefowl's on Xeno-Canto.

The next version of BirdNET (3.0), later this year, is likely to include your target species. But with the tools provided (BirdNET-Analyzer) you also have the capabilities to train a custom classifier for any birdspecies not included in the original model yourself, if necessary.

I was looking into that, I have a not so accurate custom classifier, but I intend to have it sitting on top of the existing classifier and be able to run like birdnet-pi. is it possible?

Select the append option in the training tab, this appends your custom classes to the existing ones in the big BirdNET Model, which gives you your custom classes + all classes included in BirdNET

Thanks a ton! I was also getting species 0 and 1 error. I have made sure the <custom_classifier>_Label.txt is filled with proper syntax (ScientificName_CommonName), still they are only appearing as Species 0 and or 1. My goal is to do somewhat what BattyNet-Pi did. Using BirdNet-Pi functionality, but with added on features to target specific species. I am quite new in this. Could you please help me with guidance? Thank you!

This is a known bug in the latest released version, which is already fixed in thes repository. As a workaround, use the previous versino 2.1.0 for now
