Mathjax formatting

Hi,

Reviewing this lesson - great content! I've got a question on the formatting of equations: github pages doesn't render MathJax (unlike notebooks), so the lessons' equations are all raw $dollasign$-delimited. It's a little hard to read at times.

Is it worth keeping simple math (e.g. formula references) in plaintext?

I'll post a PR for one lesson to demo.

OK, PR #7 gives an example for how to resolve. If this approach seems acceptable, I'm happy to make these changes across the lessons.

There are some other options -

• Render as notebooks rather than .md files - just about every notebook render can digest MathJax but I don't think this fits with Carpentries lessons across-the-board.
• Act like it's 2002 and embed rendered LaTeX into the file on-the-fly: http://www.sciweavers.org/free-online-latex-equation-editor

Finally, if this lesson is being rendered with a different markdown server, then this issue and PR is a bad idea - a better way to resolve might just be an NB at the top of each file. Let me know.
