Description
At the STRUDEL Contributor Workshop the curriculum team were brainstorming how uncomfortable it feels to engage in user experience research. In particular, we were highlighting how hard it is to make decisions under uncertainty.
A suggestion for the lesson is to finish with a discussion about how uncomfortable making decisions based on short conversations with a small group of users might feel to a research scientist / research software engineer. The instructor notes could have a few examples of where they have had to prioritize one piece of work over another when both were asked for by users.
Our idea is that it will help the participants at the event to see that they are not alone in finding these activities challenging. The goal is that they leave empowered to implement rapid user testing in their project even though they're feeling unsure 🫂
