`trio` support?

Is it possible to use the Elastic Search Python client with the trio event loop?

If not, are there any plans to add trio support, potentially through utilising anyio?

Hey @dhirschfeld! Long time no see. As a past Trio maintainer, I would love to see trio support! We only have a few mentions of asyncio in the elasticsearch-py and elastic-transport-python codebases, so maybe sniffio is enough. AnyIO would help for tests, though.

Good bumping into you on the internet! I did think you worked at Elastic, but I thought it would be a bit cheeky to ping you on the trio chat.

My current company uses Elastic so I'm popping up here pestering people about trio support! 😅

It did look like it's not currently supported but, from (a cursory) look at the codebase it seemed like it might be feasible to port to AnyIO.

We're actually running into a bug in FastAPI on Windows where hot-reloading doesn't work when using asyncio but does work fine with the trio backend. I'm not too surprised knowing the lengths that Nathaniel went to top ensure trio worked well on Windows. Anyway, we're stuck with asyncio because we also need elasticsearch-py, so I guess this issue can be a feature request for trio support via AnyIO, or otherwise!
