The web app UI currently lacks audio or visual cues for new unread messages. Adding a notification badge would be a basic improvement. We could also include a notification sound, but since it might be distracting for some users, we can also add a user setting to disable it. Similarly, a chat notification pop-up could be added with the same user controlled option.
