Monitoring contrib added and improved code quality

This release will be unmarked as a pre-release when the build pipeline has been fixed!

A contrib/monitoring/ directory has been added, which contains a Grafana dashboard for virtual disks and a few example Prometheus 2 Alerts.

Thanks to @dhoeld and the company I work at for the dashboard and Prometheus alerts!

The code quality has been improved by adding comments to each function.
