How do I display images?
Specifically 8bit indexed images?

Terminal.Gui supports Sixel - see #3734 (requires a terminal that supports sixel format).

There are also various ways to achieve 'images' with characters, e.g. using braille (see spinning globe):

It seems that this is no longer working in the current v2_develop branch. I can only see the image and flames with the Unix driver, although the screen flickers. I also can't find that image.

That image (eye) is just one I chose at random, select the open image button and pick any image.

Make sure you are using a pre release windows terminal that has sixel support.

Does the supports sixel show as ticked for you or unticked? That will tell us if it is terminal or driver issue

It's ticked. See how it's processed in WSL using the Unix driver.

Here is windows terminal with @tig v2_4374-AppScreenEmpty branch

I captured stream because like you see the screen flickers so image only appears momenterally.

Sixel needs to be output as last thing in render and after any buffer changes otherwise it just flickers up and then immediately disapears.

The fire is another thing entirely - I would see that as 'extra' as ttransparency and animation are not things that necessarily are that widely supported on all terminals. Lets get the basic image presentation working robustly first I would say.

Please review the IsVirtualTerminal method in the SixelSupportDetector class. I think the ideal solution would be to insert this method into the IDriver interface, with each driver returning the appropriate value based on its capabilities. In a Windows system, I would check if the ENABLE_VIRTUAL_TERMINAL_PROCESSING flag is enabled, and in Unix system, it usually supports virtual terminals by default.
