Open Collector Gates

Hi,
I find myself needing some open-collector gates. I see there are OC varieties in the 74 series IC's, but I'm building with combinatorial logic using discreet gates - is there any way to make these behave as Open Collector outputs? If not, perhaps it would be good to just have a tick-box in the configuration for the gate to turn it into an open-collector variant. It is already easy to invert any of the inputs, I would think that adding an open-collector mode would be useful and easy to implement. Thoughts?
