Does this actually work?

I am running Win11 ARM on a Macbook Air M3 processor via Parallels 19.3.0. I downloaded the installer and .bat file for the 2022 Developer version, and the install (as administrator) runs most of the way through, but then quits unexpectedly and does not actually complete the installation of the DB engine.

Seems that one can get the the Express edition to install successfully, but not the Developer edition. Thank you for your work at least getting one of the editions to install and run.

For me the developer version worked fine after I made sure SQL Server had access to the folder where I was trying to create a new database.
I even found I could install the latest cumulative update afterwards which I was sort of expecting to fail.
I'm running it on Windows Server 2025 on a Qualcomm ARM64 Oryon CPU.

My experience is that this solution won't work in a vanilla environment, but worked for me in a Parallels VM on Mac (Silicon) where lots of components from Visual Studio 2022/2019 have been installed. On another (Apple) machine this solution has not worked, so I cloned the VM from the first one.

This is strange, I have been developing/testing it in a vanilla environment - clean Windows 11 install in Parallels, always restoring the original (clean) snapshot. Could you please share the logs in case you run into some issues? See here #54 how to obtain them.

Worked for me after changing the service Log On account to a local Windows user in Services.msc
