Cannot reproduce code animation

Hello there.

First off, thank you for openly sharing your video source code! Much appreciated.

I just started using manim and trying to get more and more familiar with it. I was trying to reproduce your animation in "3_code.py" and more specifically the method display_code. Unfortunately, and after many trials, I am not capable of reproducing the same result.

There are 2 things that I would like to know:

1. How did you draw this box around the code snippet?
2. How did you vertically align the code snippet?

Hello, In the *display_code* method, I am simply creating a *Code() *object, which uses the code from r"code_references\3_code_reference.py" --> the r is for raw string, and inside the quotations is the directory, which points to code from a python file I want to animate (the python file is called *3_code_reference.py* and it is inside the folder called *code_references* ). To answer your 2 questions, the drawing of the box and the vertical alignment are automatically done by the *Code()* object. [image: image.png] These are the only two lines of code that matter --> to play around with it, just treat code_text as an object and apply any additional function to it that you'd like. Just make sure you tell the *Code()* object the location of the code file you want to animate. Well actually that's quite odd... Because for me, none of these 2 features are available to me when out of the box when I use the Code() object. For instance, if I run this code:

class Test(Scene):
    def construct(self):
        code_text = Code(r"test\code.py")
        code_text.scale(0.5)
        code_text.shift(3*LEFT)
        self.play(Write(code_text), run_time=5)
        self.wait(2)

With the code.py file containing the same contents of yours, I get the following result:

I can surely adjust the horizontal alignment by making the shifting less aggressive, say 2*LEFT, however after many trials I just couldn't center it vertically ..

Could it be that you're using the community version of manim?

Hey, Yes, I am using the community version of manim, and the Code() feature is only available in the latest version of community. That must be the issue. I highly suggest joining the manim discord and installing manim community --> I found a lot of help there. Best, Stuart
