There are cases where the SizeFunc call-back can produce an error. We
should catch and handle this error else it leads to code that could
silently produce errors.
Changing this function signature to return an error will allow us to fix code like this where we pretty much silently fail when we are encoding a TLV record.
It will also let us fix this function which also currently silently fails if the type passed to it is not a
uint32
oruint64
- so it will currently silently just use0
as the TLV length - we instead want it to explicitly error out.See this LND PR which uses this one and allows us to remove a bunch of
panic
calls along with silent error log calls.
