A "cave of ordeals" is a pure combat dungeon, where the player can only advance to a new room once all enemies are slain, but not go back to a previous room. Mobs do not drop items, not even heart refills! If players die in the the cave of ordeals, they re-spawn outside.
Provides small prizes like different amounts of coins or pieces of heart after a number of rooms.
This type of dungeon should work best for single player games, but I would like to test this with small co-op groups as well.
Could also be made available from the start screen, where players pick their gear and compete for completion time high-scores. Gear selection on the start screen includes number of hearts or armor types, so players could do challenge runs with just three hearts and the likes.
This "series of challenge rooms" type of game would also allow us to offer randomized caves, where the player does not know how many rooms or which enemy types or how many of them they would encounter!
