Google Pay not working

When we attempt to use Google Pay as a payment method, we get no visible response on the FE (such as a Google Pay button appearing). This applies on mobile and desktop.
When I click the place order button, I am redirected to a credit card mollie page. This is also replicable on mobile.

Other clients I work with have the same experience on their live, so I know that this is not unique to the development instance or this particular site

Hi There @bradley-zero1, Thank you for opening this issue.

It might sound a bit weird, but the behavior you’re seeing is actually expected. In webshops, the Google Pay button is always displayed, there’s no detection at that stage to check whether Google Pay is actually available for the user.

Within the webshops there is no detection wether Google Pay is available or not, it will always show the button. A Google Pay is underwater a credit card payment. You will always go to the hosted payment page. There a detection is done if Google Pay is available or not. If it’s not, only the regular creditcard form is being show. If it’s available, the button is shown.

Google Pay is currently only available for a subset of devices.
You’ll need an android phone for it. A wallet-enabled Chrome browser isn’t enough.

Hi there @Frank-Magmodules

I have tested this out on my android device (Samsung S24 Ultra on Chrome) and get the same issue. Below is a screenshot from my phone showing as such. I'm not sure if this is a Hyvä compat thing or not. If it isn't then could you possibly link me to the appropriate repo so I can log the issue there?

Hi @bradley-zero1 , based on your screen you are in test-mode and this method is only available in Live mode, also see this line from the Mollie docs;

"You must have Google Play Services enabled. Finally, in order to test this you will have to do it in the live mode."

That’s a good first step to try. ;-)
You could also temporarily disable Hyvä and see if the same issue occurs with the LUMA theme.

Hi Frank, Yeah that made sense. Sorry I didn't reply earlier; I forgot to press send. We have since gone live with the integration, and have no issues, though I am unsure if any Google Pay payments have been going through. I am not in a position to put the live site onto Luma Checkout, and I think that the client I am communicating on behalf of has not had any issues so far, at least none that they have reported.
