Use of non-breaking space?

Non-breaking space (represented by   or  ) is a space that cannot be broken, which is desirable in many instances of numerical expressions e.g. § 10, 10 km/h or 10 PM. Should we mention use of non-breaking space in the guidelines?

This issues is closed for now.. but eventually for later discussion..

French orthography rules as practiced in France require the use of non-breaking space.
Below is an example of how we have fomulated this requirement in our editing instructions for a specific french language book.

_- Space before certain punctuation marks
In French, as practiced in France, the exclamation mark, the question mark, semicolon and colon are always preceded by a non-breaking space. Please make sure that French texts follow this rule, as in the original book.

Interesting, but probably difficult to get proper application in a production setting. If necessary, could be edited in post production. Perhaps some of the patterns can be automatically identified/fixed.
