Hey all,

Bit of a noob here with nvim setup. I'm using mini.statusline but whenever a file is nested a few levels, the displayed path is too long to be of any use to me. I've used what very little knowledge I have to try to truncate it, but I ended up accidentally messing up completely, so here I am:

how can I configure it to truncate the path 🙏

Would you mind elaborating on what you mean by "truncate the path"?

Currently 'mini.statusline' does the following to make working with long paths better:

• It focuses on the later part of the path, so file's basename has more priority.
• It switches from full to relative path if window is 140 columns wide or less. This usually results in shorter path shown as it drops the "current working directory prefix". You can usually see the effect by creating one or several vertical splits (<C-w><C-v>).

Hey echasnovski, sure. For reference, since I switch between 4-5 different macs, I store some files in iCloud and access then from there with nvim, so the paths can become quite long particularly when working on those files.

Added a screenshot below of one such path.

Now part of the issue is that I have a problem with one of my eyes since some thugs detached my retina. To make the path easier to look at I was hoping I could adjust it to say:

L../M../c../P../s../b../functional/currying/notes-and-reviews.md

Typically I already know most of the path since I told nvim to open there, and I only need to know the path relative to the project root (or the option to, only so a blind man like myself can quickly see the important part of the path).

If always showing path relative to current working directory (i.e. the directory you opened Neovim in or after doing :cd) is enough for you, then you can override active 'mini.statusline' content like so:

Dynamically truncating file path to be like "L../M../c../P../s../b../functional/currying/notes-and-reviews.md" is possible, but it will be slow or requires a cache. Statusline updates very frequently so speed is very important here.
