Initialization Sequence

• A device may need to set something after last reset (shouldn't exist for config registers, need more details and specific application for this corner-case)

Corner-cases

• Configuration of specific devices might require a reset (e.g. pass-through device):
  1. Currently ports are activated explicitly in headstage or pass-through mode (some devices such as Miniscope may not be visible in headstage mode)
  2. If pass-through mode is not enabled on the port:
     a. before writing any device registers, you need to set register on HOST to activate pass-through mode
     b. reset the context
     c. write configuration registers
     d. reset context before starting acquisition
• Use of ENABLE registers, it is important to make sure that all devices are DISABLED when acquisition is stopped. There are two options:
  1. go through device table and DISABLE everything (this is always SAFE, even if bonsai crashes)
  2. at cancel time DISABLE only the ones that we enabled (but if crashes you might leave some enabled)

I2C devices

• Dealing with I2C devices often requires BIT SHIFTS for resolving I2C addresses to write directly to hardware at the other side of serializer

Notes and suggestions

• Use Go to Definition (F12) operator to open high-level device group nodes but allow component editors to when double-clicking to have editors associated with the node.

Actionables

• Get an ONI RHD2164 from OEPS (get one with BOOTLOADER!!)
• Maybe get custom firmware from Aaron to make it work transparently as ONIX device with liboni
