Announcement: PML 2.0 is out!

I'm pleased to announce the availability of PML version 2.0.0.

This is an important milestone in the evolution of PML. Not because of the few features that have been added in version 2, but because internally PML now uses the new pXML parser. As PML is now totally compatible with pXML, it will soon be possible to:

• convert a PML document to XML and use existing XML technology to query, modify, transform, and validate a PML AST programmatically, using standard XML tools and/or any programming language that can handle XML.
• convert an XML document (structured as a PML AST) to PML syntax, or to HTML.

This lays the foundation for exciting new use cases and automation scenarios. Just a few practical examples:

• Use XML technology (e,g, XPath) to extract all URL links in a PML document, and programmatically check for broken links
• Use your favorite programming language to collect data from different sources (databases, files, URLs, etc.), then use a standard library to create an XML document for a PML AST, and finally ask the PML converter to convert that XML document to PML syntax, or directly to HTML.
• Use an XML transformer to convert PML code into any other format not natively supported in the PML converter.

Another advantage of PML 2.0 is that new pXML features will be automatically available in PML too. Some examples of planned pXML features: create standalone documents, insert markup code retrieved from a URL, use OS environment variables to parameterize PML markup code, etc.

Note: The PML repositories have all been updated. The pXML repositories will be updated in the coming days.
