Which parts of systemd does COSMIC require? I know that GNOME recently acquired stronger dependencies on large parts of systemd and considers running without systemd to be an unsupported configuration. I’m trying to figure out if using COSMIC without systemd-the-service-manager is reasonable or impractical. |

If it is needed, it's a bug. The cosmic-session has conditional code to handle environments without systemd. |

Cosmic-comp won't be able to inhibit lid events or to request the lid-state, since systemd does a really good job on sanitizing the values (e.g. on a lot of laptops the lid state starts "closed" on boot up, even if it is open). As a result, if external screens are attached, it won't disable the internal screen on lid-close and if the rest of the system is configured to sleep, that won't be prevented as well. If there were a generic alternative (that is not reading sysfs yourself) doing the same sanitation, I'd be happy to provide support for that as well. But I am not aware of any. |

Does the lid information come from the service manager or from udev? |
