Reducing size of subtitle list

Hello, thank you again for this amazing application! 🙌

I'd like to suggest the add the option to decrease the size of the subtitle list (which currently only allows increasing). As for the text contained, it'd be great if one could adjust the size manually as well, instead of it remaining the same or scaling, though I understand this might be harder to implement. Reasoning is that it takes up a good chunk of the screen. If it were smaller it could retain its usefulness while improving viewing experience.

You can already change the font size of the subtitle list using custom style sheets. Go to Settings → Options → Interface, check Enable custom style sheets, and edit the one for the Subtitle List to use a larger font size.

I question how much smaller you can make the subtitle list while still keeping it useful. It has to have a minimum size. Do you have something in mind?

I only use it to jump around between timestamps so it doesn't need to be too comfortable to read, just identifiable. I don't know how many people have that use case vs actively trying to read from it but I'll speak with the assumption it's common ahah. The way it currently behaves, maybe half the current size. However, I think it could be even smaller with a couple optimizations. In this image I tried to see what would happen if the text got cramped by increasing the size by a lot:

I think it would be better if the timestamp didn't shorten since it's super useful for navigating. On the other hand, the sentence can be shortened, since only the beginning is needed to identify the line. With these optimizations I think it could go down to 1/3 or even 1/4 and still be useful 🤔

I didn't know the timestamp could abbreviate with ellipses. I'll see if I can change that.

I think you have a pretty weird use case. It there any way that you can be satisfied using mpv binds? Ctrl+Left and Ctrl+Right seek forwards and backwards between subtitles. That can of course be rebound to more convenient binds if you like.
