This works! I replaced RPi.GPIO by gpiozero by a class emulating the needed functions of RPi.GPIO. There were minimal changes in your code, just in lib.py.

that's great! I would like to keep using rpi.pgio for my older projects, so supporting both would be necessary.

Is this going to get merged? I see checks failing but the details have expired

Would be great to see this (or another) fix get pulled in so that Pi5 users can utilize this.

Is there currently any alternative to getting luma working on Pi5?

Just install the package python3-rpi-lgpio. This replaces Rpi.GPIO.

Thanks this worked. Remember to remove any previously installed rpi.gpio packages for your environment.

I too would very much like to see Luma supported on the RP5

Is this still relevant? I don't have a Pi5 but some users of my project do and seem to still be having issues with Luma.
