Does project need new maintainer ?

It seems that the last commit was made over 1 year ago, and there are a large number of open PRs.

Therefore am just floating this as an issue to see if the project is actively maintained or not, and discuss if new maintainers should be appointed and if a fork should be made.

I think this is a good idea. Project has definitely fallen off the wagon a little bit in terms of maintenance. It would be nice is someone at ST would take ownership of maintenance.
