Issue on some android devices: `Cannot read properties of null (reading 'setSelectionRange')`

We have gotten several hundred errors from Android devices in our bug reporting service:

From the images above, it's hard to tell if it's just older versions of Android or not, since the most common OS reports as just Android.

My simple fix for this is here, I didn't look very closely into this but I think this will solve it. Are you open to a PR for this?
