In other words, you can learn about which kinds of livestock or fish we should avoid consuming, as well as which of them to consider buying instead. But first of all, what is Sustainable Consumption? Sustainable Consumption refers to the use of resources in eco-friendly ways so that resources can be used continuously. Sustainable Consumption of livestock and seafood specifically means the consumption of food of animal origin in eco-friendly ways, so as to avoid unbalancing the ecosystem and the food chain. Then why do we need to participate in Sustainable Consumption? The main reason is because we are starting to use the resources of the Earth as granted, including its other natural inhabitant. With improving technology, we are able to hunt more animals, both on land and at sea, and we are taking advantage of it. Our selfish acts have led to the number of certain animals decreasing sharply, including those being hunted, their predators, and other innocent “bycatches”. Some are even being driven to endangerment or extinction. Therefore, some have proposed the idea of Sustainable Consumption as a response to that. We focus in knowing which species of animal we should avoid, and which we should choose as alternatives.
